And the winner is...

MITCHEL!!!
Tonight was our stake's annual Pinewood Derby. Mitchel wanted a rocket car and so he got online and researched and designed his own car. Then Mike shaped the wood while both sanded and painted to get the finished product.
Before the race.
The competition was fierce. There were 16 cars and most seemed well designed. We were hoping that Mitchel's would at least make it down the track since we hadn't tested it before hand. The first heat proved that Mitchel's car was the one to beat! It zoomed down the track in 3.7 seconds, the fastest one of the night. After all the heats were over and the official results were in, Mitchel had taken first place over all! (We did have one tense moment when his wheel came off during one of the races. Luckily, Mike the mechanic was able to fix it quickly)

And here is the winner!
He received a first place hat, two certificates, and a extra large Crunch candy bar, which was his favorite prize of all.

Proud parents

And really, Mike was just as big of winner as Mitchel. He had some very late nights over the past week making sure that Mitchel had a car he could be proud of. Way to go Mitchel and Dad! You both are winners!

January Thaw

The snow finally melted enough and the temperatures warmed up enough that we decided to take a little outdoor adventure for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Our original plan was to go to a bounce house place, but it was packed and the prices had been raised, so we opted for the West Jordan Park instead. My kids love this place!

We only stayed for about an hour, until my toes were too cold. The boys could have stayed a lot longer. It did give me hope that Spring will be here again someday and when it is, we'll come back for a picnic!

I looked out my window

I looked out my window and what did I see? Even in January there are some things that are amazingly beautiful. Cold, yet beautiful at the same time.
